Ron DeSantis's Pro Homophobia Ad is Insane

Two years ago, I was a fan of Ron DeSantis. I like that he stood up to the media and that he refused to shut down Florida during COVID. I went to CPAC in Florida in early 2021 and it felt almost normal (even though the hotel still yelled at people to wear masks, but whatever).

But Ron DeSantis has officially jumped the shark.

There is no way this person can be president.

I have several grievances:

1. I do not like the way he handled Disney and believe he used the power of the state to punish his political opponents for speech that was critical of the state. I don’t like what Disney had to say, but it was a dramatic overreach and an open violation of their free speech.

2. I think the establishment wants Ron DeSantis to win, and that in and of itself makes me nervous. Anytime the establishment rallies around someone, I think we should question why.

3. This ad. This ad is insane. Ron DeSantis’s War Room posted an ad on Twitter literally brags about being more homophobic than Donald Trump. Even Scott Presler - the top GOP activist in the nation, who also happens to be gay - responded to it asking the campaign what they thought of him. You can watch full ad below if you’d rather not go over to that cursed platform.

This ad was obviously produced by people who think that pandering to the most toxic elements of the far right is a way to win a primary.

No thank you.

If DeSantis really thinks that bragging about how anti-LGBT is going to help him earn the votes of independents and disaffected lefties, he is not ready to be president.
